The Colchester Carnival has been organised by Colchester Round Table and Colchester Ladies Circle, which are both registered charities (numbers 1054311 and 1147760). The event is run on a not-for-profit basis, and all proceeds after expenses will go to benefit the community of Colchester.
We invite charities and not-for-profit groups, which can demonstrate that they add value to the people of Colchester, to submit applications for grants from the carnival fund.
We are committed to transparency with the money raised. Therefore, after the carnival our accounts are available for public scrutiny on our website.
All physical costs of running the carnival are met by private sponsorship and from the sale of trade pitches at the family fun day. As both Colchester Round Table and Colchester Ladies Circle are voluntary charitable organisations we are eligible for discounted rates for the hire of certain public spaces, including Castle Park, and we do benefit from beneficial rates from the emergency services, but we would stress that the presence of these bodies is to satisfy their need to ensure public safety and where at all possible we do provide private security, the cost of which is met from income generated. Neither Colchester Round Table nor Colchester Ladies Circle profit from the event and all surplus income after expenses is distributed to worthy causes chosen by a panel to ensure fairness.
