There are a number of ways that you can get involved in Colchester Carnival. If you’d like to be a part of the event, please see the below areas and get in touch.
Date and time of Colchester Carnival 2016
Colchester Carnival 2016 will take place between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday 16th July 2016.
Take part in the procession
The procession is the main event of Colchester Carnival – join up to 1,000 performers from 60 organisations in a parade over a mile long! The procession is free to enter for individuals and arts organisations. Businesses using the carnival for promotional reasons pay a small fee, but all profits go back to the Colchester community.
The deadline for entries is Friday 24th June. Entries received after that date may not be considered. We do have a limit of entries for each category, so we would encourage you to get your entry in as soon as possible.
This year’s Colchester Carnival theme is “Fairy tales, myths and legends”. The theme is not compulsory, but we find that the crowds love it when entries take part in the theme. Feel free to interpret the theme in any way you can think of!
How to enter
Just give us your details in the form above. We’ll immediately email you the entry form. Please complete the procession application form and return this to us using the instructions in the form. Incomplete entries will not be processed. We will not print copies for you. Please remember that we are a charity and are run by volunteers.
We have a number of free lorries available, supplied by Hamblion Transport. Let us know in your application that you require a lorry. The deadline for applications for lorries is Friday 18th March. Entries after that date are unlikely to get a free lorry.
Colchester Carnival Advertising and Partner Opportunities
Colchester Carnival is a fantastic community event attended by thousands of local residents which makes it a great opportunity for local business to get involved and raise their profile.
With the involvement of Colchester Gazette and Colchester Radio Station & Heart Radio these organisations will act to produce a number of positive news stories to promote the event in the run up to July.
A campaign designed to create a buzz in Colchester for the Carnival will run from the beginning of March this will include the website, social media posts, plus leaflets distributed to local schools and businesses in advance of the event and on the day, promotion of the carnival in town centre locations.
How to get involved
The carnival has been run on a voluntary basis for five years and after many years without this much loved Colchester tradition the event has now re-established itself as one of Colchester’s premier community events.
In order to enable us to concentrate all of our efforts on making this year’s procession bigger and better than before, we have decided not to include the Castle Park event in 2016. We realise that this may lead to disappointment for many performers and stall holders. We did not take this decision lightly, but must focus our resources for the benefit of the event.
